Year 5
Today, the children celebrated Safer Internet Day. In Year 5, we explored the safe and responsible use of AI using a range of resources from the UK Safer Internet Centre (UKSIC). Firstly, the children completed an activity called 'Okay or Not Okay?' They were given a series of statements with different ways that AI can be used and had to decide whether it was okay, not okay or that it just depends. The children gave some thoughtful responses and it made us think. For example, 'Is using AI to create a fake news story and telling a friend that it is real ok?' Using a second set of scenarios, the children needed to consider what advice they would give to someone in a situation such as in Pip's example where someone in a group chat made a silly AI image of a friend and shared it with the rest of the group. The children role played a different scenario in their group and then practised giving advice as a trusted adult. To finish, we shared ways of seeking support in these different situations such as telling a parent or a teacher and reminding the children about reporting to the game or app and how Childline is also set up to deal with issues such as these.
