Governor Vacancies – Co‑opted Governor
Our Governing Body is made up of volunteers including parents, school staff and members of the local community. Together, they bring a wide range of skills, experience and perspectives, all with a shared commitment to supporting the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team in ensuring the very best education for our children.
Governors play a vital strategic role in:
- supporting and challenging school leadership
- monitoring the school’s performance and development
- representing the school community
- ensuring accountability, safeguarding and high standards
The usual term of office for a school governor is four years.
We currently a vacany for a co‑opted governor.
Co‑opted Governors are appointed by the governing body for the skills, knowledge and enthusiasm they can bring. You do not need to have a background in education: what matters most is a commitment to the school and a willingness to contribute to its improvement.

Safeguarding information
Hugo Meynell Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
Any person appointed to work at Hugo Meynell will be engaging in regulated activity with children. This is because they will either:
- be responsible on a regular basis in school for teaching, instructing, caring for or supervising children,
- be working on a regular basis in school, where the work gives opportunity for unsupervised contact with children, OR
- engage in intimate or personal care, even if this happens only once.
It is an offence to apply for any vacancies at Hugo Meynell if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
The successful candidate will be subject to necessary pre-employment checks, including: an enhanced DBS, Prohibition List, Barred List, Childcare Disqualification (where applicable); qualifications (where applicable); medical fitness; identity and right to work. All applicants will be required to provide two suitable professional references.
In line with Keeping Children Safe in Education, and as part of our pre-employment checks, shortlisted candidates will also have their publicly available social media profiles checked.
