Science Week Begins!
Whole workshop with members of the Science Team from The Grove School
We have had the most incredible start to our Hugo Science week thanks to the wonderful Science Team from The Grove High School.
Our theme for science week this year is: 'We are all Scientists!' Mrs Moore demonstrated this perfectly as she introduced the children to Science activities that they could try at home with their grown-ups.
Mrs Moore and her lab technician Tabby Fish made oobleck (gloop). Mrs Moore explained to the children that this is a non-newtonian fluid - that means it has the properties of both a solid and a liquid. The children were mesmorised as they handled the substance, observing its movement during scooping and pouring and its compaction under pressure.
The children were also treated to a demonstration of Elephants Toothpaste - This exciting reaction between hydrogen peroxide, yeast and warm water causes a rapid production of oxygen, which makes a spectacular foam resembling elephants toothpaste.
