Here at Hugo Meynell Primary School we pride ourselves on the involvement we have with our community. Pupil links with the community are an integral part of school life. We have close links with our church in Ashley, St John The Baptist. Rector Terry Williams holds a weekly worship at our school which draws upon our Christian values. Our school visits the church for worship twice a year at Christmas and Easter. Mrs Buckley also delivers regular worship on a Tuesday which feed into our church clubs for KS1 and KS2. We have a strong links the church and a member of Ashley Church takes assembly every other week. We are involved with community in many ways and have over the last couple of years been involved in the Community Choir, Carols at the Peel Arms, "Carols at the Car Wash", Community litter picks, Community rounders, Staging the village day and lots more.
On occasions, groups of children go out into the community to visit senior citizens and perform at local venues.Different groups of people are invited into school to watch shows and assemblies such as Christmas Nativity, Christmas lunch, Year 5 and 6 productions. Each year we have an open day for the community to look at the work of the school.
Over the course of each academic year we raise and support a number of different charities such as Children in Need, The Food bank, Comic Relief, Sign to sing, Samaritans, McMillan Cancer research to name but a few.
We have a link with a primary school in Tanzania and the teachers from the school come to Hugo Meynell once a year our teachers go to Tanzania. Our children send letters to the school and we put on a fund raising event once a year to help buy resources. You will see in our slideshow a selection of photographs from our last trip to Ihombwe Primary School in Tanzania.
